Research Seminars and Training

You may be enrolled in the following Research Training Units offered by Departments in the Division in 2008:

Accounting and Finance:

Economics:

Statistics:

  • STAT816 Special Topics in Statistics 1

Accounting and Finance offers its own discipline-specific research training units, which take students through the basic protocols of academic research in the discipline, the classic methodology and other issues such as the literature review.

The ‘Research Seminar’ is particularly valuable: it is carefully structured and students attend pre-seminar classes which predigest the content of a forthcoming research seminar given by a local or visiting academic, and then submit critiques of these seminars. The critiques are subsequently graded.

Economics has designed three shell, zero-weighted units to enable a supervisor to insist that certain relevant coursework units are to be completed satisfactorily in order that overall progress can be considered satisfactory.

Department Seminar Series

All Departments have a scheduled seminar series in which academics within EFS as well as invited scholars present their current research. Attending seminars is an excellent way to be exposed to cutting edge research and to meet other academics within your respective field. Departmental research coordinators and supervisors will be able to provide information regarding seminars and will identify any specific research training units you may need to incorporate into your program.
