Divisional Funding

Everyday expenses such as photocopying, postage, and telephone are funded by EFS. Funds for other research costs are allocated by the Division Research Committee (DivRC) subject to the Dean’s approval.

To obtain funding for any other purpose eg. workshops, training, transcription services or attending colloquiums and conferences, students must submit a completed Application for HDR Support form to Sumi Pilkington. Applications may be submitted at any time. The Associate Dean, Higher Degree Research has authority to approve applications. Some applications may be referred to the Division Research Committee. It is recommended that you plan for your expenditure and apply well in advance.

Grants

Macquarie University Postgraduate Research Fund (MQPGRF)

Up to $4,000 is available for students to present at an international conference or for other non-standard expenditures in support of their research. It is expected that every student in EFS applies for a PGRF grant.

Students have about 18 months in which to make their application – from late second year (full-time equivalent) up until three and a half years (full-time equivalent) candidature. It is important to talk to your supervisor about appropriate conferences and plan well in advance.

You are supported in your application by a grant writing workshop and an interview preparation workshop provided by our Academic Writing Specialists. Applications for MQPGRF are submitted to Kerry Todd-Smith, DRM, prior to the submission deadline. Kerry will review your grant application and address any issues which may arise before submission.

Travel grants are available through Macquarie International to travel overseas for research or for a conference. Applications can be made at any time.
