Support for Research

1 Introduction

The Division of EFS is committed to providing strong support to its research students to undertake quality research and complete their degree on time. Support includes teaching and supervision, workshops, adequate physical resources and funding for essential research costs and approved conference travel.

2 Supervision

Macquarie University has a Code of Supervisory Practice that sets out the rights and obligations of both supervisors and students. All supervisors and students are expected to be familiar with this document.

Students or supervisors experiencing problems are advised to consult the relevant Head of Department or the Associate Dean, Higher Degree Research. It is important that you keep a record of problems you encounter and seek assistance before they become an obstacle to research.

3 Equipment and Facilities

EFS research students are provided with access to basic infrastructure such as computing, photocopying and telecommunications facilities. The Division aims to ensure that all HDR students have access to facilities including workspace and a computer with email and internet access. Accommodation for full-time research students is located on levels 2 and 3 of E4B.This area is designated for research students ONLY and contains individual work stations. Other facilities are in the MQ Postgraduate Representative Association (MQPRA) space in C5A325. As space in E4B becomes available students may transfer from MQPRA in order of enrolment date.

All students must have an active EFS email address. All EFS correspondence will be sent to this address. You can redirect your personal or other university email to this address which is highly recommended.  Alternatively you may choose to have your EFS mail redirected to another personal or university address.

To organise a workspace, computer, email and business cards, please contact Sumi Pilkington, HDR Administrator.
