Three outstanding academic staff of the Division of Economic and Financial Studies - Chris Baumann, Sam Jebeile and Joseph Macri - have been recognised for their distinctive, research-led teaching, winning prestigious Carrick Awards for Teaching Excellence. Valued at $10,000 the Citations for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning celebrate the nation's most outstanding university teachers in their fields of expertise.
Dean of the Division, Professor Ed Davis, AM, says that his Division's reputation is built on dynamic and experienced staff whose innovative teaching styles deserve the highest recognition. " Last year record numbers of our staff won bothCarrick Awards and Macquarie Excellence in Education Awards for teaching. And if that wasn't enough evidence of high quality teaching, at the start of 2007 multi-award-winner Associate Professor John Shepherd, from the Department of Actuarial Studies, was named as one of Australia's best university teachers receiving a highly competitive Carrick Award for Australian University teaching. Macquarie's students are the real winners as they benefit from the passion and commitment that these staff bring to the classroom."
