The Impact of Contracting and Re-contracting on Employment Relations
This seminar draws on research conducted across eight case study networks which analysed the way in which employment was being fragmented across organisational boundaries. The cases included agencies, public-private partnerships, supply chain links, franchises and alliances. Rather than seeing these as good for efficiency and enhanced employment opportunities, the research found considerable evidence of increased problems in the management of employment. In addition to work being fragmented, pay systems were disordered, skills were lost and employee voice became disconnected. This raises major questions about the efficacy of such ventures both in the short and the longer-term.
