Division of Economic and Financial Studies
Terms of Reference
The Learning and Teaching Committee of the Divisionof Economic and Financial Studies is responsible for working with the staff ofthe Division to maintain and enhance a culture where teaching matters andstudents are engaged in their learning.
The Learning and Teaching Committee will:
- Develop a culture of excellencein teaching and enhance and encourage learning.
- Identify emerging issues,promote excellence, and encourage collaboration and the adoption of goodpractice in scholarly learning and teaching in the Division, consistent withthe University’s strategic directions.
- Advise the Dean, Heads ofDepartment and Executive on strategic planning and quality enhancement inlearning and teaching; with particular input to the Learning and Teaching Planand relevant support plans.
- Advise the staff of theDivision on developments in learning and teaching, including the implicationsof changes in technology on learning and teaching
- Liaise with their Learning andTeaching Committee of the University and committees in other Divisions.
- Provide advice to, and obtain informationor reports from Departmental Learning and Teaching Committees, ERIC (studentssupport), the Director of Undergraduate Studies and the Director ofPostgraduate Studies.
- Facilitate informed debate ontopics/issues relevant to the Learning and Teaching Committee in theUniversity’s pursuit of its strategic objectives.
- Communicate with other committeesof the Division to ensure that duplication is avoided and University strategiesare achieved.

- Coordinator of ERIC
- Nominee of Centre for ProfessionalDevelopment
- Managing Director of SIBT (or nominee)
Chair of the Committee
The Chair of the Learning and TeachingCommittee shall be the Associate Dean Learning and Teaching.
Co-opted Members
The Committee may co-opt additional members. The term of office of members co-opted by the Committee shall bespecified at the time of co-option and such members shall have all rights andprivileges of other members.
The Committee has the power to establishWorking Parties with membership from across the Division.
Observers
Members of the University community may attend meetings as Observers, and are allowed, with the permission of the Chair of the Committee, to address the Committee on issues being considered by the Committee.
Meetings
- The Committee shall meet at least 4 times a year.
- A timetable for meetings for calendar year shall be presented and approved by the committee in the previous year.
- Additional meeting may be scheduled as circumstances require.
Quorum
A quorum for the meeting of the Learningand Teaching Committee shall be five.
