Key Features
The aim of this postgraduate degree is to provide graduate students with a breadth and depth of knowledge and skills in information systems and information technology sufficient to operate effectively at a professional level in a wide range of organisational structures. More specifically, the program is provided for students who seek a business perspective in their study of information systems and technology rather than a computer science perspective.
Suitable For
The degree is available to students with or without a business oriented IS/IT background, however students with limited business and IS/IT units in a prior degree will be required to complete a preliminary program to build foundation skills.

Structure of the Course
The award of MCom in Information Systems and Technology requires the completion of eight postgraduate units (32 credit points) selected from the following list of units.

The Graduate Studies Office and the Division of Information and Communication Sciences jointly offer the MCom in Information Systems and Technology (MIST) and the Master of Information Technology (MIT) as a double degree program. Successful students will graduate with full recognition by Macquarie University that two postgraduate degrees have been earned. For more information see MIST/MIT double degree.
International Study Programs
Students in the MCom are able to participate in an international study experience such as a short 4-6 week program at an overseas university, a semester of study on a student exchange program or an articulated double degree at a university in another country. These international study opportunities are available to both Australian and international students, are partially funded by a Macquarie Travel Grant and count for credit toward the MCom. MCom and Exemptions in the CPA Program
CPA Australia has designated the MCom in Information Systems and Technology a specialist masters degree. Under this arrangement, students who complete the MCom in Information Systems and Technology in full (32 credit points) and then enrol in the CPA program of CPA Australia are able to claim exemption from two elective segments in the CPA program.
Time to Complete
The MCom in Information Systems and Technology can be completed in one year by full-time study or longer by part-time study. Students can take a maximum of four units (16 credit points) in a semester, although three units is the minimum required to maintain full-time status.
