The purpose of a double Masters degree is to provide candidates with the option of completing two internationally focused degrees within one period of candidature. A double degree will interest those who would like to extend their business skills in the complementary area of international communications. This is a modern business degree with a global outlook. It provides the opportunity to acquire contemporary knowledge and skills in core business disciplines with an international focus. Core studies are undertaken in finance, accounting, marketing and economics together with elective units chosen from a range of business disciplines. 

Suitable For

The program is suited to a wide range of interests but is particularly relevant to those who plan a career in organisations that conduct business beyond a single domestic economy. For example, the Master of International Business (MIB)/Master of Arts in International Communication (MAIC) is relevant for those planning careers with parent companies having foreign subsidiaries, export oriented firms and public sector bodies involved in cross-border commercial issues. 

Career Opportunities

Graduates of the MIB and MAIC double degree may find careers in multinational companies, public and corporate relations, and business-oriented media. 

Requirements

Entry Requirements: Applicants must hold a bachelor degree in communication, media, public relations or similar from a recognised university, with a GPA of at least 2.70 out of 4.00. More detail is available in Admission Rules for Australian and International Students. The MIB/MAIC does not require prior work experience for admission.

Work Experience Requirements: Some relevant work experience would be an advantage for the MA component.
English Language Requirements: English proficiency is required at IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 580. More information can be accessed from English Language Requirements.

Notes:
  • Applicants are expected to have completed foundation units in their bachelor degree. If the bachelor degree does not contain sufficient business related units, students may be required to complete a Preliminary Program, of one semester duration, before enrolling in the Master of International Business/Master of Arts in International Communication.

  • Please note that a student's MA specialisation in International Communication will not be stated on their testamur (graduation certificate) but it will be included on their academic transcript.

MAIC Core (4 units, 16 cp):
  • ICOM821 Intercultural Communications
  • One unit from ICOM811 or ICOM816
  • One unit from ICOM812 or ICOM817
  • One unit from ICOM818, ICOM828 or ICOM891

  • Two electives from the MIB option units.
  • Three electives from the MAIC program (select from ICOM units, including units from core group)

Sequence of Units

In general, students can plan their own study program using the timetables of each partner degree. However, students are expected to take a mix of units from each partner degree in each semester.
