Vision
The Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Medical Statistics group uses biostatistical research methods and applications in collaborative projects with major external medical and related research bodies. It is envisaged that its research will directly contribute to current methodological developments.
Scope
This group is engaged in multiple projects, focusing on medical related topics such as: nutrition; assisted reproductive technologies; asthma classification; cardiovascular disease; breast cancer; and orthodontic applications. Some issues being investigated include the effect of tissue technology on vaginal paravaginal repair; the extent to which one’s sense of identity and intergroup familiarity influences one’s impressions of accented English; and how Markov modelling can be applied to quality of life and effects of treatment decisions.
Research is being carried out in collaboration with major medical research groups, including the NHMRC Clinical Trials Centre (CTC), University of Sydney, the Australasian Research Institute, Brainnet, Concord Hospital, Prince of Wales Private Hospital, The George Institute for International Health and other departments within Macquarie University including Linguistics and Biological Science.
