Gender Relations: Women at Work

Vision

The Gender Relations Group aims to address the paucity of research in Australia examining women’s work characteristics and opportunities by exploring ‘women’s jobs’ in Australian workplaces. Its research generates valuable data which is used for recommending policy responses required to promote greater gender equality in employment. Although focusing on the Australian context, the group aims to establish an international profile for quality research related to women’s employment.

Scope

The group’s research explores contemporary Australian women’s work experiences, focusing particularly on identifying their current position in the labour market, the extent to which this is changing and how greater equality and opportunities can be promoted for Australian women at work. The research in this area will enhance understanding of equal employment opportunity and anti-discrimination issues, and will form part of a broader research agenda within the Labour Management Studies Foundation, which examines contemporary issues for women at work.
