ABS Research Codes - RFCD, SEO, FOR

In March 2008 the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) announced a revised Socio-Economic Objective (SEO) Classification; and a new Fields of Research (FOR) Classification to replace the Research Fields, Courses and  Disciplines (RFCD) Classification.

    • The Committee will usually require 20 working days for turnaround of applications. To speed up applications and avoid delays it is important that you comply with the guidelines and include all correspondence and authorisations/approvals from other institutions that you engage with in your research, as well as copies of the questions you will be asking.

    • For staff and research students
    • Paticularly relevant for those applying for, or who need to apply for ethics approval for their research project, including LEAD projects.
  • Human Ethics Committee Meeting Dates 2008
    • All applications are reviewed by committee members using an online system, however the full Human Ethics Committee meets monthly to discuss applications which are complex and require further deliberation, or which may be sensitive in nature. Although there are no closing dates for submissions, materials that need to be reviewed by the monthly full committee are required to be submitted 2 weeks prior to the meeting.

    • Any research which involves interaction with human subjects (people), such as interviews, surveys/questionnaires, field research etc, requires prior ethics approval from the Human Ethics Committee at the Research Office. The university's policies, procedures and forms that need to be completed can be found on the Research Office website.

Grants - Resources for Applicants

All research grants and contracts MUST be lodged via the Faculty Research Manager

    • Use these rates for all internal grants and those external grants which do not prescribed an on-cost rate.
  • Tax Office reasonable rates for travel costs
    • This is a budget tool. Only actual expenditure will be reimbursed and must be supported by appropriate documentation. Most internal grant scheme limit the amount you can budget to 50% of these rates.
