Profile:
Michael was formerly a partner with the international accounting firm Arthur Andersen responsible for their Risk Management practice in Sydney. Michael left the firm in September 1998 to form his own business consulting practice, Matthew and Matthew, with his similarly qualified wife.
Michael's Arthur Andersen clients included most of their internal and external audit engagements with Michael's contributions being in his specialist areas, most notably Information Risk Management.
Matthew and Matthew is a niche business consulting firm which provides outsourced finance department services (accounting) to a range of companies from fibre optic manufacturers to bio-tech companies, consulting firms, fashion and lingerie companies, sports/events merchandisers (including those at the Sydney 2000 Olympics) and one-off organisations such as the 'Millionaire Shopper' programme.
Michael also still practices in the project management area including acting as a project manager / angel. His current and recent clients (that he is allowed to mention) include: IAG (formerly NRMA); Fox Sports; Australian Rugby League Foundation; News Limited; Fox Studios Australia; and KPMG.
Michael specialises in running facilitation sessions for companies in terms of planning (IS and other, including for Professional Services Firms and Internal Audit Departments) and helping resolve problems.
One of Michael's major clients is the Information Risk Management practice of KPMG where he operates as a 'skills coach' for Australia.
Michael was the only Arthur Andersen person who the professional writers that helped write Andersen's larger proposals would let write his own stuff. His post-Andersens life includes working in this area helping to prepare proposals and reports as well as ghost writing articles and speeches.
He is also a visiting lecturer in Information Systems for the Master of Commerce at Macquarie University where his units are always highly rated by the students.
Michael is described as an interesting and entertaining speaker who has won numerous best paper awards. He lives by the creed of his hero: Jesse 'The Body' Ventura (ex-WWF wrestler now Governor of Minnesota): "You've gotta tell it like it is"!
